NATIONALIST DISCOURSE: THEORETICAL PROBLEMS AND DISCUSSIONS

Abstract

Over the past few years, the European Union has experienced a sharp increase in the electoral popularity of right-wing political parties and movements. The crisis of the idea of national identity, socio-economic problems, the migration issue, as well as the controversial status of the EU in international relations - it's only part of the problems, the actualization of which is active and, as the results of elections at various levels - from local to pan-European ones - extreme right. The basis of their ideology is national populism, and the main tool is nationalist discourse, forming and using which these organizations influence the political choice of an increasing number of Europeans. In this article, various approaches of foreign and domestic researchers to the phenomenon of nationalist discourse are considered. In particular, the author attempted to analyze the mechanisms of the formation of nationalist discourse by analyzing theoretical constructs by researchers of this phenomenon. The process of the origin of the discussion about the phenomenon of nationalistic discourse in the domestic science (A. Miller, P. Kandel, V. Malakhov) is shown, and also the classical and modern approaches to the analysis of the problem of the discourse of nationalism in socio-political processes are considered. Difficulties in the definition of this category of political science are probably evidenced both by the urgency of the current policy and the need for further research in this scientific field. At the end of the article, the author made an attempt to determine the phenomenon under investigation, taking into account both the experience of previous studies and the features of the political process in modern Europe.
