Abstract

Among the participants in the Great Russian Revolution of 1917, we can find not only citizens of the Russian Empire, but also immigrants from other countries of the world. The Bolsheviks were particularly successful in attracting foreign citizens to their side. The article explores the key reasons for the migration of Chinese people to the territory of Russia in the middle of the 19th century, which, of course, was the reason for the formation of the large-scale Chinese diaspora in the country. The question of the participation of Chinese citizens in the October Revolution of 1917 is being considered. Particular attention is paid to a comprehensive analysis of the Chinese citizens’ reasons and motivation for joining the Red Guard and participation in revolutionary and military actions. In addition, an assessment of the role of Chinese military units in the Great October Revolution of 1917 is given. The main conclusion is that in multinational states, migrants are a serious problem that in the situation of socio-economic or political turmoil can lead to an escalation and deepening of the conflict between citizens. An example of such an increase in a civil confrontation can be the historical experience of lack of control over migration processes and the unresolved socio-economic problems that led to the fact that Chinese citizens, along with other foreign subjects, were dragged into revolutionary and military actions on the territory of the Russian Empire.
